Gabriel Olatuja is a healthcare technology entrepreneur and the Founder/CEO of Virtual Doctors Africa, a Nigerian telemedicine platform established to improve access to quality healthcare through digital innovation. Although he is not a medical doctor, his passion for solving healthcare access challenges has driven him to build technology solutions that connect patients with licensed healthcare professionals.
The idea for Virtual Doctors Africa was born during the COVID-19 period when his father, who had been ill before the pandemic, struggled to access medical care during lockdown restrictions. As his father's condition deteriorated, Gabriel realized that thousands of Nigerians were facing similar barriers to healthcare. This personal experience inspired him to create a platform that would make medical consultations more accessible regardless of location.
Starting with nothing more than a Google Form, he recruited over 120 licensed medical doctors within one month, despite not having a website, an established brand, or a fully developed operating model. Since then, Virtual Doctors Africa has grown into a telemedicine platform that has served thousands of Nigerians by providing convenient access to healthcare services.
Gabriel has further strengthened his expertise in digital health by completing training in Ethics and Governance of Artificial Intelligence for Health, aligning his work with global principles for the responsible use of AI in healthcare. (World Health Organization)
His interest in healthcare technology also extends to research. He has authored and co-authored publications on ResearchGate exploring the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare, including The Deployment of Predictive AI as an Intervention to Bridging Healthcare Gap in Nigerian Health System, which examines how predictive AI can improve healthcare delivery and accessibility in Nigeria.
